Attention Adventuresome Athletes!
3 06 2009Hey guys- I need your help!
One article a week of mine a week at Twirlit.com is going to be devoted to the newest fitness trends. If any of you have tried/are currently trying something new in the fitness industry. You can send ideas of things you haven;t tried, too, but want to learn more about: a new program, a new peice of equipment, anything new and interesting that you want to share, leave me a comment or email me at kelly@everygymsnightmare.com
If I choose your’s, I’ll interview you in my peice and can even link if you have a blog. Like I said, this is a weekly feature, so there’s plenty of opportunity for everyone!
Side Note
Ok, my Twirlit.com articles are going up pretty much daily, so instead of linking, just check out my articles on the Twirlit.com Health page.

sure! there was an article recently in a magazine (hmm self maybe?) about those stability stepper thingys. not sure the technical name. but htey are little blown up things you step on and use to have to balance yourself while doing core/strength exercises. i had completely forgotten about these but they were a BIG part of my knee rehab in college (i tore my ACL and was lucky to have been a varsity athlete so i went to the training room twice a day to rehab and my recovery was 110%). i did lunges with these, walked/lunged across a set of them, etc. i would love to get a pair for myself!
have you heard of these things?
I went to a stagette last weekend and it included a pole dancing class. A lot of fun (and laughing) and actually a pretty good workout. I definately felt it in my arms the next day (and my abs but that may have been because of all the laughing).
Yay you’re back!
I’ve been completely addicted to Lotte Berk method type classes in NYC — Core Fusion at Exhale, Physique 57, Nalini Method, The Body. Core Fusion is offered in a bunch of states. I’d love to talk more about these!
So very cool. I emailed you on a program we are doing that I just love!
I’m about to start training a gal with MS, which means she has movement/balance challenges. Will be using a speed ladder to get her to concentrate on moving deliberately through space. It’s a bit off the normal use of these things.. but not much.
So talk about agility for the non-athlete.
I have been in the world of “crossfit” for a while now and it is really taking off. They have crossfit for any fitness level and any age or ability and its an awesome workout!!! I guess you can say I have “drank the koolaid” of crossfitting and I can never stop.
I just started doing a few dance classes casually on top of my running. One of my favorites is Zumba – the light workout is very different from running, but it’s great because it still keeps me moving. My health club just started offering these classes, and I understand it is an upcoming trend. I believe it helps me with my running because I am naturally a very uncoordinated person (my running form looks absolutely terrible after the first about ten minutes), but dancing takes so much self awareness I think I am learning to control my body better, which would help so much for preventing injuries when running.
The class consists of following the instructor’s choreography of many different, but fairly basic and straightforward and latin inspired, moves. We dance to the rhythm of the music (always great), and since it is so new and therefore no one but the instructor is amazing at it, no one cares if the new comer is a little lost (because really, everyone does their own rendition of what the instructor shows them).
I hope this helps you out,
Pheebs
I second what Lacey brought up.
I’m also interested in kettlebells. They look so intimidating!
I’m really into Group Power (weight lifting class by BTS). It’s not new but it’s new to me. I’m addicted! I’ve taken it for almost a year now and have noticed MAJOR differences in my body. I did cardio for years but this was my first experience with weights. LOVE IT!

I dont so much do a different fitness thing, but I do a sport called haidong gumdo which is a koren sword style martial art. We basically spend the 1hr+ with a sword in our hands. Its certainly different and my arms have an amazing tone to them.
Hey there Eric from SD..
